Backup and Disaster recovery although often linked are in reality separate processes and often to get best performance need dedicated products for each job.

Veeam produce a range of excellent products to compliment a VMware virtual infrastructure with their flagship product being, in our opinion, Veeam Backup & Replication.
Veeam Backup & Replication lets you recover an entire VM or an individual object from any application or file system—all from the same image-level backup. There are no agents to install or manage, and automated tasks can verify the recoverability of every backup.
Veeam Backup & Replication also provides image-based replication of VMware Virtual Machines across local and wide area networks (LANs and WANs). It provides near-continuous data protection (near-CDP) for a fraction of the cost of traditional CDP. It also provides the ability to store multiple snapshots of a replica so you can recover a server back in time. You can replicate on-site for high availability, or near-site/off-site for disaster recovery.
So what does all this mean? In practical terms you can set up replication of VMware Virtual Machines, Configure Veeam to auto-validate the backup by booting the backed up Virtual Machine into a sandbox and performing pre-defined or user defined tests, Perform basic recovery or backup up files or information and, if a live machine fails fail-over to the CDP replica to get back up and running with minimal data loss or if a server has had problems for some time (e.g. over a weekend) restore back in time to a previous replication.
